RUTLAND STREET NATIONAL SCHOOL

Dublin Central has been engaged in a number of very worthwhile projects with Rutland Street National School over the last number of years. These have included a trip to the naval vessel LE Ciara, the annual trip to the pantomime in the Gaiety Theatre, the provision of professional advice on dental care, while club members have also supplied furniture for the school library.

Originally situated on Lower Rutland Street in Dublin’s north inner city between Summerhill and Sean McDermott Street, the school is now based at Gloucester Diamond Park (at the junction of Sean McDermott Street and Gardiner Street). Over 100 pupils – ranging in ages from four year to 13 years – all live in the local community.
The teaching methods of school's staff members can be best described as creative and innovative. These include the provision of a reading and maths recovery programme, paired reading sessions with members of the wider community, a support teacher working with those children who experience severe emotional and behavioural difficulties, a learning support for children with special needs, in addition to language support for foreign national children.
